Setup with a coding agent
If you build with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or a similar agent, you can let it install Hollo for you. You paste one prompt, answer a question or two, and review the changes like any other pull request.
Copy the setup prompt
Open your app in the dashboard and copy the setup prompt. Your app key is already filled in.
Run it from your project root
Start your agent in the folder that holds your Xcode project or Package.swift, so it can read your code. Paste the prompt.
Answer its questions
The agent asks where the Support button should go, for example your settings screen or a help menu. It also checks how your app handles sign-in, if it has any.
Review and run
Read the diff, build, and run the app. The agent finishes by sending a test message, so you can watch it arrive in your inbox.
What the agent changes
| Step | What it does |
|---|---|
| Install | Adds the Hollo Swift package and calls Hollo.start(appKey:) at launch. |
| Support button | Adds a button where you asked, in the style of your existing buttons, with a badge from Hollo.unreadCount. |
| Look and feel | Sets Hollo.theme from your app's accent colour and font. |
| Sign-in | Calls Hollo.identify(id:name:email:) after sign-in and Hollo.signOut() on sign-out. |
| Account deletion | Calls Hollo.eraseUserData() in your delete-account flow, if you have one. |
| Push | Passes the device token to Hollo.registerPush(deviceToken:) and taps to Hollo.handle(notification:). |
| Test message | Sends a test message through the chat, so you can check the whole path works. |
The agent doesn't ask users for notification permission in a new place. If your app already asks, it hooks into that. If it doesn't, the agent leaves a note for you to decide when to ask.
What the prompt looks like
The prompt in your dashboard is the one to use, because it has your app key and the latest steps. This shortened version shows the idea:
Add Hollo in-app support chat to this iOS app.
App key: app_XXXX
Docs: https://hollo.so/llms.txt
1. Add the Hollo Swift package and call Hollo.start(appKey:) at launch.
2. Ask me where the Support button should go. Match the existing button
style and show Hollo.unreadCount as a badge.
3. Set Hollo.theme to match the app's accent colour and font.
4. Call Hollo.identify(id:name:email:) after sign-in and Hollo.signOut()
on sign-out. Call Hollo.eraseUserData() when an account is deleted.
5. Forward the push token and notification taps to Hollo.
6. Build, then send a test message and tell me when it's sent.
Docs for agents
A plain-text index of these docs, written for AI agents, lives at /llms.txt. It lists every page with a one-line summary and a link. Point your agent there if it needs more detail than the prompt gives.
Good to know
- Check the button placement. Agents are good at wiring code, less good at taste. Make sure the Support button sits where your users will look for it.
- Check sign-out. If your app has more than one sign-out path (a button, an expired session, a deleted account), make sure each one calls
Hollo.signOut(). - Push still needs your APNs key. The agent can't upload it for you. Do that in the dashboard; see Push notifications.
- Run it again safely. If you rerun the prompt later, ask the agent to update the existing setup instead of adding a second one.
